The sound of silence

There came an old man

Who sat down by me.

He had a white cane

But still he could see

The world and all in it

Much clearer than me.

I could hear the man’s voice,

Though he didn’t talk.

Just a tilt of the head

And a way in his walk.

The sound of silence alone,

Alone in the mind,

Is a sweet sound of silence,

Which flows like fine wine.

But in the company of others,

Such a feeling divine.

We sat there in silence,

Kindred spirits in union.

Not one word was spoken,

The most joyous communion.
